Hence I picked up this book. I guess it’s understandable that Gardner wanted to do more than just change the wording given that his name is all over the cover, but he has not improved the book as far as I am concerned. In fact, this is a very old book early 20th century and it’s surprising how accessible it is I would say, more than today’s books. About Silvanus Phillips Thompson. I studied calculus at school, and used it occasionally at university, but I’ve not needed it since so this was a trip down memory lane. The downside to the free book is missing out on Martin Gardner’s commentary and notes.

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Revision of a classic primer made more accessible by one of the twentieth century’s greatest mathematicians and thinkers. Turns out I just hated how it was taught to me. The book has real simple language and of course since this a book about an advanced concept, the reader is expected to have some background in Mathematics.
The author provides some examples calculhs which gets the concepts ingrained in the readers’ mind. A must have for high school students and parents or teachers who wish to teach children calculus. The choices for initial examples and exercises were sometimes more complex than they needed to be, bringing in complexities unrelated to what was being taught.

As I expected, it brought back memories of learning calculus at school although I don’t recall the subject being so clearly explained as in this book.
There are no discussion topics on this book yet. But no, this little gem o.thompson seen by then three dozen reprintings starting in I have skipped the exercises. But the book explains lot of things in simple and elegant way. This is ONLY because the original is so good.

Of course, as the title presumes, this is a xalculus short introduction to the basics of calculus differentiating and integratingand the book clearly has its limits. With a new introduction, three new chapters, modernized language and methods throughout, and an appendix of challenging and enjoyable practice problems, Calculus Made Easy has been Calculus Made Easy has long been the most popular calculus primer, and this major revision of the classic math text makes the subject at hand still more comprehensible to readers of all levels.
I myself learned calculus in much the same way as it is presented in this book, only a century later. Just a moment while we sign you sjlvanus to your Goodreads account. Very British and sensible, and a much better approach to teaching mathematics to children or, in my case, 28 year olds.
